I love getting asked to write stuff. Just so you know, I find writing and the implied impossible when the product does not make sense. Enjoy this article for Gravity Blankets.

It’s been years since I left insomnia behind. It’s also been years of medical research and understanding how sleep can be improved, which made me realise something. What we know about ourselves is key and acting on it can result in such bliss. You see, even before I even had sleep issues, I kept remembering something about a very heavy woollen blanket. You probably know what it’s like to revisit a situation, a memory, lasting for what feels like a split second. I kept remembering how that blanket used to make me feel. It made me smile. So glad I finally acted.

My case of insomnia was a mixture of not being able to fall asleep, sleep through the night or bad quality sleep for at least three nights a week. For more than a decade, my daytime coping got worse because of it. And so, working my way out of it began and I learned a lot. Changes needed to be introduced, leading to the use of sleep masks. Hormonal issues, nutrition and stress levels needed revising, too. Plus, at some point, I started dreading sleep which had become an issue in itself.

Fast forward a couple of years, I finally acted on what was right in front of me. That recurring thought of that heavy blanket. Given the varying degrees of anxiety and tension I sometimes still deal with, it’s no wonder the blanket kept coming to mind. Interesting small studies are coming in. One study shows that 63% of users reported feeling less anxious, and almost 80% of participants considered a weighted blanket to be a calming modality. Elsewhere, it’s stated that weighted blankets seem to normalise our sleep/wake rhythm. Subjective reports show that other kinds of sleep dysfunction, pain and stress were reduced.

So, the day came and my Gravity Blanket arrived. I followed the instructions to slowly introduce the new sensation which I hear varies, some clients use it full-time right away. It’s cosy, I fall asleep even faster and it improves my sleep quality. Plus, it makes me look forward to sleep even more.

Those who want to tweak their sleep to perfection may benefit from what I consider to be a layer of calm. Back in the day, it would probably have helped me work through my sleep issues faster.

No matter where you stand regarding your sleep, never forget to observe and act. A simple thought can provide the bliss we deserve.
